Chapel Allerton Squash Club's new French connection served up a memorable victory before a packed gallery – with the promise of more to come.

The Club unveiled former world champion Thierry Lincou for the home clash against Nottingham in the National League and the Frenchman helped the Leeds team to a 4-1 victory.

The best was saved until last when Lincou, an ex-world No 1, took centre stage against Malaysian Ong Beng Hee, the current world No 10.

It was a match packed with drama, passion, fluctuating fortunes and some of the best squash Leeds has seen for decades.

Beng Hee, the former Harrogate Yorkshire Premiership player, came within a whisker of taking the match, but the tenacity of Lincou secured victory by a thrilling 14-12 margin.

The win was marked by a universal roar and a standing ovation which rattled around the rafters for both players.
